Welcome!

What was once a wedding blog for my mother and I to share ideas is slowly (VERY slowly -- like, we're 10 years down the road from our first post to one another!) becoming a blog for my life. I've rediscovered it in the Middle-Of-The-Night as I work and search for something to keep myself busy and awake (I am no night owl)!
***********************************
In keeping with the spirit of origin, you'll find links to our wedding prep, wedding day and then our first married year! (Terribly interesting, I know) As for the rest of the blog.. We'll just see where it goes! I dabble in many different areas, because I get bored easily (I do NOT sit still well!) so there is no telling what I might end up sharing! Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Birdies & Guitars Explained

When I was planning our wedding, I wanted to find a way to equally represent not only myself but my husband as well in the "theme" of the wedding. I have been an avid bird watcher (and bird knick-knack collector) since I was a child and my husband is a bit of a music officianado and guitar collector. I created a custom motif for our wedding displaying a bird and a guitar, so out of that "Birds and Guitars" was born. After his birth, I added a music note to symbolize our son, because together birds and guitars make music, after all. (Cheesy, I know, but it works and we're sentimental, cheesy people! Haha)
I didn't grow up dreaming about my wedding, but this one piece I had all planned out.. Even before the pond existed. Dad and I hand dug it with a shovel years before I even knew when or who I was marrying. Lucky for me I found someone willing to go along with it. :) Even with years of planning (in my head), there was a lot to do in the yard to get ready for the wedding. We worked for months to get it ready. We put in sod and planted pink flowering bushes (most of which didn't see the wedding thanks to mischevious goats and late spring freezes - Oh, the hazards of a West Texas ranch wedding), we fixed and painted our antique church pew collection, and Mom and Dad even had a concrete dance floor poured and an iron gazebo built above it (thanks to Jeff's Dad for helping out with that, and especially Dad's friend Richard. He did an amazing job). This is a collection of a few of the photos I could find from our months of hard work.
So first things first, the remainder of the wedding preparation....

I wanted an outdoor country wedding and we set out to accomplish everything I wanted and still stick to a reasonable budget (I'm pretty sure we still went over it, but for the most part we tried). This wedding, was largely a DIY/Home-made wedding. Luckily for me my Mother is wonderfully crafty and raised me to be as well, so this was not a problem at all! We also had a few friends and family help us out with certain parts and pieces. The only thing we ordered and did not make was the wedding party attire (including my dress). The groomsmen and bridesmaid attire was ordered from Amazon.com and I purchased my dress from David's Bridal (one reason we went way over budget!). However, I did do my own tailoring of my dress, which was super scary!

I chose turquiose and chocolate brown as my colors along with fuschia accents, primarily in the form of flowers. I wanted a variety of fuschia flowers and had wanted to use fresh. But I also wanted flowers that would last until the last guests left. Who wants droopy flowers mid-reception? In the end we decided since we live in West Texas and the wedding and reception were being held outdoors at the end of May in unpredictable levels of Texas heat... That going with a mix of silk and live flowers was our best bet. We shopped the sales at our local craft stores and bought loads of silk fushia flowers, then ordered live "Hot Lady" fushia roses fresh from Ecuador. Mom made all the bouquets, corsages, boutinerres, table centerpieces, and aisle arrangements. The result was beautiful. :)

I felt like a week stashed away in the cabinet was long enough, so today I decided to give it a try. I made a Coconut Kiss icecream that ended up being absolutely wonderful! Coconut is one of my all time favorite flavors and scents. Mmmmm...

I was a little apprehensive as to whether or not my ice cream would end up a creamy consistency without the heavy cream base (its non-dairy due to my milk allergy) but it turned out perfect! Within just a few minutes I could already tell my liquid coconut mixture was churning into a delightful frozen cream. :)

The machine got it to a soft-serve consistency and all in all this was a fantastic trial run. Jeff and I loved the flavor! And after about half an hour in the freezer the ice cream was solid enough to dip with an ice cream scoop. I will definitely enjoy using this machine. I can't wait to experiment see what other flavors I can come up with! One of my New Year's resolutions was to cook more often. Does ice cream count!?

I don't do a lot of measuring when I'm playing around in the kitchen so this isn't exactly a recipe, but below are the ingredients I used. Next time I'll try to be better about measuring!
Waiting on Miranda to add the chocolate brown and copper hammered metal paints and then plant the beautiful pink vine to climb up it. Cant wait to see it finished.
